Alexia Peebles, Storyteller Competition Director

Alexia Peebles is the Director of the Storyteller Competition for HBFF and has been since 2007, almost 10 years. She has worked closely with hundreds of writers from all over the globe as they navigate the competition and Festival and with the industry professionals who read and critique the countless scripts that have been submitted over the years. Alexia is passionate about supporting and showcasing the voice of the Black Diaspora and works tirelessly to make Storyteller an uplifting and beneficial experience for those involved. She has worked with some of the top theatre directors in Los Angeles, transforming the Storyteller Live Staged Reading into the Storyteller Live Performance (which showcases the work of the three Storyteller semi-finalists) and making it one of the most popular events at HBFF.

Alexia is an actress/dancer, writer, and producer, born and raised in rural North Carolina. She has a BA in Theatre Education from HBCU NC Central University and an MFA in acting from UNCG. Before moving to Los Angeles, she traveled the world as a principal performer with DC-based dance company, StepAfrika! and was, at that time, the first and only company member representing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Currently, Alexia is a television and commercial actress, represented by The Polygon Group.
